Civita. Angeletti Ruzza Design
“Nothing old is able to come back. But nor does it disappear all together. And what has been, always comes back in a new form”. Alvar Alto 1921
The CIVITA project, in a special limited edition, was created as a tribute to Azzurra’s twenty-five year anniversary which took place in 2010.
Old-time knowledge, belonging to the peasant culture, is projected into the future as the union of an ideal relationship between man and nature. This is the philosophy behind the project, which uses a material that is very simple yet closely linked to the region where AZZURRA was founded: tuff.
Artisan products which combine years and years of local culture, providing new shapes that are both ancient and modern at the same time.
“Civita washbasins are true pieces of nature”,say designers Silvana Angeletti and Daniele Ruzza, “the idea for this project came to us very spontaneously while we were at lunch in a tuff quarry in Civita Castellana. We could not but be moved when in the presence of such a magnificent display of nature...”
The form and function of the washbasins merge with the spiritual emotions they evoke. The project is not a nostalgic revival of the past but a range of objects designed for relaxation, beneficial for the mind and body. A simple and course design, perfectly interpreted using clean and non-polluting material.
Hiding in the past, is the new: it just needs to be recognised and acted upon.
The washbasins are entirely handmade. On the inside of the basin, the tuff is protected by a layer of coloured cement, available in white, ruby red and dark blue, which makes it waterproof and resistant to acid; the exterior is painted with a special transparent treatment which eliminates the material's dust release effect.
The washbasins are available in the rectangular (60 x 37 cm) or round (diameter 37 cm) version. 250 pieces will be produced for each type.
